Advertising, Economy and Society

Advertising encourages, manipulates and drives the audience or consumers to consume products. It targets to make the audience relate to products in particular effects. In society, this type of work belongs to the category called "affective labor." Advertising targets the mind and emotions of the audience in order to consume their products and make profits out of it. Since the emergence of mass media in the nineteenth century, affective labor has been dramatically increasing.

Advertising drives consumers to spend more money on buying products and services. Therefore, money continues to circulate inside and outside the country, pertaining to economics.

Advertising affects the society in many different ways.

For businesses, it is pretty obvious that advertising helps the business gain more consumers and furthermore, more profit. Although it may cost, businesses assume they will gain back the money later on.

For consumers in the society, advertising informs them that a product/service exists and they are available. It also entertains them through advertisements. Consumers will then tend to have options on which products to consume.

For advertising businesses, advertising gives them customers. It's what's keeping the business running. In this phase, advertising businesses are both producers and consumers for the same matter.
