The Emergence and Development of Multimedia in the Philippines

Newspapers are typically multimedia because it's composed of more than one media: text and images. Before, Filipinos were It emerged in the late 1800's to make the Filipinos aware of the abuses the Spaniards and Americans were doing.These were one of the first multimedia in the Philippines. And it has a dramatic significance in the history of the Philippines.


Del Superior Govierno was the first actual newspaper. It was launched by Gov. Fernandez del Forgueras.
Newspaper is one of the oldest form of communication that early Filipinos accommodate in order to spread a word to the whole. The multimedia industry started and boomed since then. Newspapers started to contain more images and real images popped-out. When the foreign people left our country in 1898, Filipinos had the freedom to write whatever they want in the newspapers. In the present time, there are 3 major English newspapers that circulate the whole country daily: Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star and Philippine Inquirer. They provide daily news and updates in the Philippines.



On the other hand, in the late 1960's the first mobile phone in the Philippines was released by Motorola Philippines. Today, the Philippines is considered as the "Text Capital" of the world with the three major networks, Smart Communications, Globe Telecommunications and Sun Cellular which not only let you call and text but to surf the internet through latest mobile units. 

Televisions in the Philippines was introduced in 1953 through the brother of our former president, Elpidio Quirino. There were networks emerging from side to side until the Marcos regime began and made all media outlets that were critical of the Marcos administration padlocked and sequestered. After his regime and the people power in 1986, the television industry restarted and networks began coming back to broadcasting. In 2010, HD television shows began to boom. Be Careful with My Heart is one of the examples. It is the first tv series to be shot in high definition. Today, two major TV networks compete for the people: ABS-CBN and GMA Network which both started in the 1960's.




1994 when the first internet was made available in the country. It has been developing since then and in 2010, 29.8 million Filipinos are internet users. As of September 2011, 33% of the Philippines population is using the internet. It made communicating easier and more efficient. Today, businesses prefer advertising using the internet because it's cheaper and more effective. Therefore, internet affects the economy of the Philippines.

Philippines is growing fast in the Multimedia Industry and it's not stopping. From newspapers to radios and televisions, to internet, video and photography Philippines never failed developing in every way regardless of its history. Today, multimedia is widely used at home, school, businesses and political aspects. It has conquered the communication style of the Philippines and helped evolving the world.
