Bridge to proper media organization

Aren’t you tired of using the same file explorer? Copying and pasting files? Selecting files one by one, grouping them, and then duplicating them. The whole process takes you 15-20 minutes. That’s if you have not so many files. And what if you are in a hurry and you need to find a certain image at once? Usually, what you would do is you will go to the search box and search for the containing folder, not the specific image alone because your images aren’t always renamed. Unless you’re very specific about your files that every time you import them, you rename them one by one. That’s a lot of hassle. Let’s say you have 400 files in that containing folder, finding a single image is going to take another 5 minutes of your time. Why don’t we just save the hassle?! Get out of that traditional file explorer that not just takes up a lot of disk space but an amount of your time. Use something new, something efficient and fast. Something called Adobe Bridge.

ADOBE BRIDGE

Adobe produced a lot of different software which are all very helpful for Multimedia Arts Practitioners. One of these software I really admire is Adobe Bridge. Adobe Bridge is a stand-alone file browser that is designed to help users attain a more organized work space with creative suits. It is very obvious that Adobe Bridge is a basic tool for organization. Adobe Bridge lets you o,port files from camera, organize them, move, locate, tag, rate, label effortlessly without leaving the interface.

First and foremost, Adobe Bridge is very user-friendly. It can also be used with other Adobe software like Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and other Adobe applications. Browsing, viewing and organizing files are its best assets.

Another benefit of having Adobe Bridge is that it can be placed on other Adobe Apps. Adobe expanded its interface with other Adobe apps making it easier and more efficient. A file from Adobe Bridge can be opened in photoshop, illustrator, inDesign, dreamweaver or any other Adobe App the user has. You can find it in the menu bar > File > Palce It is then much easier to distribute digital assets that\n repetitively clicking on menus and place commands.

Applying Metadata in Adobe Bridge is another asset of the app. The app gives the user an easy access to the copyright data of the files. Menu bar > Tools > Append/Replace Metadata. This feature allows the user to at least put a copyright on his files and let the people know it's yours and yours alone.

Batch renaming is something you can't do using other file explorers. Batch renaming is helpful in organizing files that are randomly placed in your hard disk. You can find the Batch rename at the menu bar > Tools > Batch Rename... The main purpose of batch rename is to rename different files all at the same time after selecting them. But what's great about this is the user can get to choose to preserve the original file name or permanently rename the set of files.

What is more appealing in this app is a mini version of it. Yes. A Mini Bridge. This feature allows the user to access two Adobe Apps at the same time. Having so, organizing and editing has never been so easy! Mini Bridge can be accessed in Photoshop and InDesign. For Photoshop, go to Window > Extension > Mini Bridge. For InDesign, go to Window > Mini Bridge.

Adobe Bridge is something photographers, Multimedia Arts practitioners and even Multimedia Arts students should never miss. Not only has that it made the file organizing a whole lot easier and faster but it adds to the specific needs of users. It is very accessible to other Adobe Apps and is very user-friendly. Not only professionals can use it but even those not related to multimedia arts. If you're thinking to keep on using your file explorer for the rest of your life, save the hassle and use Adobe Bridge! It is fast, easy and efficient. This is something out of the ordinary file explorer that every user will love. There’s no question at all. I say YES to Adobe Bridge.

Advertising vs. Society

Advertisements are basically made to persuade and encourage people to entertain products and services. And what makes the society decide to buy is an effective advertisement. But how can we say that it is an effective advertisement? It is when an advertisement has the capability to change a person's perception and decision on things. For instance, a person want to buy brand x, he really wanted to buy that but then he saw the advertisement of brand y, this time he changed his mind in an instant and decided to buy brand y.

Advertisements also make people become wiser decision makers. They get to choose between a lot of products. We all know that nowadays, there are lots of businesses that are competing in the market. Having an advertisement is now almost a requirement for those businesses to have for their products, so that people will be informed and reminded that their product exists.

There are different appeals where businesses can choose from and can basically affect the emotions of the audience by connecting to them through experience. There is Fear appeal, Sex appeal and Humorous appeal. Fear appeal is an advertisement design showing the product's capability to avoid negative experiences such as embarrassment, awkwardness and distress. Sex appeal advertisement design shows the product's capability for person to increase his/her attractiveness to the opposite sex. This usually targets the teenagers. While the Humorous appeal advertisement design uses fun and excitement to encourage viewers to avail the product or service.

All those advertisement designs target to connect and relate with the audience to avail the product or service. But not only that. These advertisement designs also affects the people's emotions and their perspective in life. For example are advertisements of beauty products. These advertisements always aim to make the audience feel that they can be more beautiful by buying their product but not harming the side where they can also be beautiful by being themselves, especially for women.

Advertisements affect the people's pockets and the people's emotions. Sometimes these advertisements that are shown on television (which are widely shown and well-known) contributes to how the next generation would be. If the audience enjoyed it and is greatly affected by the advertisement, they will make it a
basis for everyday life. But advertisements don't always show moral values. That's why some advertisements are banned. It's up to the people on how they're going to perceive the advertisement.

Advertising, Economy and Society

Advertising encourages, manipulates and drives the audience or consumers to consume products. It targets to make the audience relate to products in particular effects. In society, this type of work belongs to the category called "affective labor." Advertising targets the mind and emotions of the audience in order to consume their products and make profits out of it. Since the emergence of mass media in the nineteenth century, affective labor has been dramatically increasing.

Effective advertisements has to have the main concept in its most creative way. Here are some examples pf creative advertisements...

Advertising drives consumers to spend more money on buying products and services. Therefore, money continues to circulate inside and outside the country, pertaining to economics.

Advertising affects the society in many different ways.

For businesses, it is pretty obvious that advertising helps the business gain more consumers and furthermore, more profit. Although it may cost, businesses assume they will gain back the money later on.

For consumers in the society, advertising informs them that a product/service exists and they are available. It also entertains them through advertisements. Consumers will then tend to have options on which products to consume.

For advertising businesses, advertising gives them customers. It's what's keeping the business running. In this phase, advertising businesses are both producers and consumers for the same matter.

The Interview

As I always say, the best teacher isn't a human being. In fact, it's an abstract thing called experience. Last June 30, 2014, my group mates and I went to Mandaluyong City to interview and witness the action in producing an animation film by an expert animation company, Toon City. I can say that this experience is something always worth remembering. The fact that Toon City approved the interview is a blessing itself because the company is one of the most known companies by animation studios and productions. As students, this is a really big opportunity for us. So we went and gave all we got.

The Preparation

Before having an interview with Toon City, and far before we sent the interview request letter, my group mates and I were very thrilled and excited as if going to a roller coaster ride. We imagined everything and saw it all come to its place from sending a request letter until the class presentation. But all of those weren't as easy as they appear.

There were a lot of request letters sent to a variety of different multimedia arts companies before Toon City because none of them responds to our request. We tried contacting some using the landlines but sometimes, they don't answer and some doesn't even ring. We sent more than five request letters through the internet to multimedia arts company/group including Great Image, Holy Cow, Summit, Teamholix and more. But most of them didn't respond. We were running out of time and hope, when a respond came the night of June 29, 2014. It was Toon City responding to our request interview!! It was very unexpected because other companies respond after a few days or even weeks; Toon City responded in a matter of hours! My group mates and I were chatting through Facebook when our group leader announced that we have an interview with Toon City 10 A.M. at Mandaluyong City. I literally jumped off my seat and started shrieking. I couldn't hold my happiness, I told them. Because that same day, I bought my first DSLR - Canon EOS 700D. I thought to myself how blessed I am and thanked God for it.

Morning of Interview

Our call time is 7 AM at our school, LPU-Laguna for the purpose of letter approval. I was there 7:03 and saw one of my group mates there. Others, came late. :( But anyway, it's okay because who we were really waiting for is our professor, Ms. Ma. Anna Corina G. kagaoan to present our excuse letter saying that we will have our interview today. She then came and approved our letter and then we're off.

For starters, I don't ride the bus often. I usually ride jeepneys and tricycles. It was my first time to go to somewhere far without my parents or any guardian. So it was a really thrilling and exciting trip for me. Added the fact that we were standing the whole trip. :D We rode from Makiling to Mandaluyong City for about two hours. The ride was smooth and no accidents happened. And the whole trip, I was chatting with my group mates about how we expect the interview to be, how we're going to edit the video cover afterwards, what will be our token of appreciation etc. All of us are excited!

An Unexpected Trip

Soon, the bus dropped us at Robinson Mandaluyong City. It wasn't opened yet, so we waited until we can buy Krispy Creme to be our token of appreciation. Being new to the place, we were clueless where to go. So we asked a taxi driver to accompany us to Toon City, Pioneer Bldg. The driver didn't agree because he can only accommodate four passengers; we were five. Dejected, we looked for another way to go there. Luckily, there's another taxi that approached us and agreed to accommodate five passengers. So we rode and trusted the taxi driver that he knew where we were going. Unfortunately, he didn't. He dropped us at Pasig City, FAR from where we should be, which really pissed off all of us. It cost us 80php!! That's really disheartening and annoying at the same time!

 The Arrival

We went further and a tricycle driver helped us reach our destination. This time, for real. He was our savior that day because it's 20 minutes before 10 A.M. and we should be earlier. Arriving at what looked like a compound with lots of buildings around. Initially, you would not think that animations are being done there. It was a bit dirty at sides and no signs of animation. But we were psyched as we enter the building, and saw the big "Toon City" sign inside. It looks better on the inside and very different on how it looks outside. There's a big digital clock, a front desk and a row of different animation films on the wall. It was AWESOME.

First, we were asked by the guard to log on their log book, then, we were asked to wait for our interviewee, Mr. Rene De Guzman. Soon, employees began entering the building for their work, and they kept on noticing us, especially our clothes, basically because we were the only visitors that time. That time, we were wearing our school uniform. It's a 3/4 white polo topped with a grayish vest and slacks-like, grayish pants for the bottom. We can hear them saying "Astig ng uniform nila oh!", "Nice!." It was flattering but even if they didn't say that, I'm really proud of my school. :D

Meeting Mr. Rene De Guzman

We can see Mr. Rene De Guzman going back and forth from the workplace to his office. Basically, he's a very busy person. It made us realize how really lucky we were to be having an interview with him. After a few minutes, he called us to his office and in no time, we were ready to start the interview. I was one of the interviewers together with Riciel Monserata. I was really nervous that time and my heart was pounding really hard. Maybe because of his presence that expresses total professionalism. We chatted a little about who we were, our chosen program, what course this formal paper is in and a little about our experience going there. He seems so professional that adds to the tension I was feeling.

The Interview

The interview went like it was suppose to be, like a normal interview. We introduced ourselves, readied the cameras, and started the interview. As the interview went on, my tension got less and less. I was very thankful nothing bad happened and it was smooth. When it was done, we thanked him and gave him our token of appreciation. He thanked us and gave us a tour on the animation company. We weren't suppose to see the inside of the workplace but Mr. Rene let us took a peek of it. It was big and more than 30 employees were working at the same time. Mr. Rene said they are working at a project that time. Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to take videos and pictures of their workplace. But it's okay, seeing it in person is awsome enough for us.

Aftermath

After the interview, I felt like I lost 100 kg of weight. I was really relieved that a big part of the formal interview is done. It was like dropping a 1 ton bag for good. But at the same time, we were really tired. Realizing that I'm the really heavy bag ready to fall down any second because of being really tired. Before going back to school to attended our 3:30P.M. class in Sociology, we ate at Chowking, SM. We arrived at school early so I had the chance to sleep for a few minutes and I took it.

To sum it all up, this experience is something extraordinary. It made us learn things through experiencing. Things that doesn't only relate to animation but in life. Mr. Rene's words inspired me and my group mates about how anybody can be an animator. He expressed that with the right perseverance and attitude, anyone can achieve being anything we want to be. And that inspired us. Although what I really want to be is a photographer, not an animator, his words enlightened me. And I know, this experience will be one of those I won't forget in a long time.

The Emergence and Development of Multimedia in the Philippines

Newspapers are typically multimedia because it's composed of more than one media: text and images. Before, Filipinos were It emerged in the late 1800's to make the Filipinos aware of the abuses the Spaniards and Americans were doing. These were one of the first multimedia in the Philippines. And it has a dramatic significance in the history of the Philippines.

Del Superior Govierno was the first actual newspaper. It was launched by Gov. Fernandez del Forgueras.
Newspaper is one of the oldest form of communication that early Filipinos accommodate in order to spread a word to the whole. The multimedia industry started and boomed since then. Newspapers started to contain more images and real images popped-out. When the foreign people left our country in 1898, Filipinos had the freedom to write whatever they want in the newspapers. In the present time, there are 3 major English newspapers that circulate the whole country daily: Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star and Philippine Inquirer. They provide daily news and updates in the Philippines.

On the other hand, in the late 1960's the first mobile phone in the Philippines was released by Motorola Philippines. Today, the Philippines is considered as the "Text Capital" of the world with the three major networks, Smart Communications, Globe Telecommunications and Sun Cellular which not only let you call and text but to surf the internet through latest mobile units.

Televisions in the Philippines was introduced in 1953 through the brother of our former president, Elpidio Quirino. There were networks emerging from side to side until the Marcos regime began and made all media outlets that were critical of the Marcos administration padlocked and sequestered. After his regime and the people power in 1986, the television industry restarted and networks began coming back to broadcasting. In 2010, HD television shows began to boom. Be Careful with My Heart is one of the examples. It is the first tv series to be shot in high definition. Today, two major TV networks compete for the people: ABS-CBN and GMA Network which both started in the 1960's.

1994 when the first internet was made available in the country. It has been developing since then and in 2010, 29.8 million Filipinos are internet users. As of September 2011, 33% of the Philippines population is using the internet. It made communicating easier and more efficient. Today, businesses prefer advertising using the internet because it's cheaper and more effective. Therefore, internet affects the economy of the Philippines.

Philippines is growing fast in the Multimedia Industry and it's not stopping. From newspapers to radios and televisions, to internet, video and photography Philippines never failed developing in every way regardless of its history. Today, multimedia is widely used at home, school, businesses and political aspects. It has conquered the communication style of the Philippines and helped evolving the world.

My Multimedia Business

In three years time I have already graduated. Hence, I'm already facing the world outside the school, teachers, my classmates and the pressure of homework and project deadlines. But as I leave that phase of my life, I know I am facing a more delicate and dangerous phase of my life. By then, I am no longer a student and I should already know my responsibilities in order to be successful in my chosen career. I know it's a long way to go before I face that phase of my life but I might as well consider have a wide range of ideas as early as possible to make it more feasible in the future.

My Dream Multimedia Business

I really have this passion for taking photographs and the idea itself excites me every time. I feel like I was born with the only reason of taking photographs.

But what is it about photographs that really excite me? Maybe it's the way it freezes one single moment and saves it for a lifetime. Or maybe just the sound of the shutter gives this bolt that electrifies my whole body. Sounds exaggerated? It's not. I felt those little butterflies in my tummy when I first had my DSLR camera one Sunday (June 30, 2014). I couldn't sleep properly knowing that I'm about to have my first DSLR camera the next day. And when I first held it in my hand I tried to hide my emotions by not having any emotion at all but I ended up smiling at myself looking like a perfect idiot while strolling at the mall.

So there's no question at all and it's perfectly clear what my dream multimedia business is. If I have all the necessities needed in building my own multimedia business, I will have a photography studio or be a freelance photographer or both. These simply answers the nature and specialization of my multimedia business. And it also definitely answers WHY I choose to have this business. The question now is what will  be the name of my business?

Name it or Leave it

If I were to describe myself in terms of loving oneself, I can say I'm vain. Vain is a word that describes someone who is too proud of his own appearance, abilities and achievements. But it is also a word that describes not having success or not producing a desired result. Now why would I described myself as someone who is too proud of my appearance and not having success? I can say that I am vain because I love looking at myself almost every time and I have the capability to just look at the mirror for hours making faces and all. But that's all. To be honest, I have the attitude of being too insecure every time

My perception of the word vain is having a proud look of oneself and having the attitude to love oneself even though having difficulty in finding success. What is it's connection to photography? Well, part of being vain and loving your appearance is loving to look at yourself in a perfect moment, in a perfect photograph and in the perfect quality. I want everyone to feel they have this perfect moment in their life in the best quality and let them keep it for an eternity. That is the goal of my business.

A lot of business owners love to put their name in their business' name. I think it's good, because you are proud knowing that this is your business, you started it and you're proud of it. That's why I'm naming my business "Evanity".

Key to Succes

We already know that the key to any business' success is the willingness of one's heart and all the necessary personalities: discipline, professionalism, time-management, perseverance etc. They are all the common things to consider in mostly everything, right? But for me, what's really the key to my business success is making it unique and separating it from others. This will pull the public's attention to your business and away from your competitors. Another thing to put in mind is know your business and your competitors. If you know your business' and your competitors' assets and disadvantages, you'll never lose.

Philippines' Multimedia Industry

The Multimedia Industry in the Philippines can be described as something booming really fast in an unprecedented manner. Despite the unfortunateness of fate in history, the Philippines is now catching up when it comes to technology matters especially in the multimedia industry.

"Multimedia is the use of variety of artistic or communicative media."

INTERNET and WEBSITES

Filipinos can be very fond of having introduced to a new and foreign technology. Using technological gadgets they can easily access the internet and browse photo sharing websites, news and business websites, informational/educational websites, blog sites and the ever popular social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr and a lot more. More and more Filipinos are using Facebook in a daily basis and update their twitter and instagram as well. Even actors, actresses, news anchors, TV hosts, singers, comedians and even the Pope has twitter accounts.

Pope Francis' official twitter account. @Pontifex

This just proves that multimedia industry is now dominating not only the Philippines but the whole world.

In fact, in a statistical finding, in the year 2003, 63.1% of households in the Philippines have television in their home while in the year 1990 there is only around 23% television receivers. In 13 years, 40 % of the population was introduced to television.

TELEVISIONS and RADIOS

ABS-CBN, GMA Network, TV5 and Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) are just a few of the most powerful TV and radio networks with massive audiences. They are all accessible in most of the regions in the Philippines which means. As television dominates the multimedia industry, radio users lessen but it didn't continually disappear because of the increase of mobile users that have easy access with radio stations just with the use of earphones.

Because of the continuous emerging of multimedia in the country, the Union of Journalists of the Philippines - UP, an academic socio-political organization of students based in the College of Mass Communication, is conducting a yearly media report to apprise the current situation on the Philippine Media. Last year's event title is "Media Report 2013: Assessment of the Philippine Media Industry".

MOBILE PHONES

Paul Levinson stated in his book, "Cellphone", the mobility and portability of media is called "the media-in-motion business". Moreover, cellphone is a gadget portable enough to be brought anywhere and can be used in a different variety of media like voice recording, picture taking, video capturing and even video and photo editing. According to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), 92% of the Philippines population (per 100 people) in 2011 has active mobile phone lines. More mobile phones, more multimedia more connections to the world.

All of these mean that Philippines has evolved fast in the multimedia industry which also means the demands for human resource with adequate skills and knowledge about the whats and the hows in terms of multimedia is now in demand. As a multimedia arts student studying in a premiere school in Laguna, I believe I’m in quite good position if it concerns my future. I also believe that having multimedia in our daily lives opens a lot of opportunities to connect to the whole world in the least effort. And the more we connect the more we hope to change the society we live in for the better.
